COLUMBUS (WCMH) A Columbus-area state representative has introduced legislation that could make cursive writing a requirement in Ohio schools.
Rep. Andrew Brenner, R-Powell and Rep. Marilyn Slaby, R-Akron introduced HB 58 on Monday.
The bill adds the following to the states educational requirements:

It should NEVER have been taken out.
This is so... retro.
Where would kids be without keyboards?
Jeantel is having a sad.
Where would they be? Not livestreaming stupid crap on Facebook that is where
The article never tells us exactly why these congressmen want cursive to be required. I’m all for it just so the students won’t be totally dependent on machines and gadgets to do all their writing and printing for them. Some of these kids have not even developed their own signature, relying instead on making block letters.

Yep, not to beat up on Trayvons girlfriend, but her stating she doesn’t read cursive really brings home the point, of how certain basics just aren’t taught in some schools anymore.
Just teach them to write in print better.
Cursive isnt some magical aide when it comes to writing. Just something some folks feel some nostalgic connection to because they did it as kids. Frequently it is harder to read.
Blacks are taught enough to keep them on the Democrat plantation.
They’re victims. White man is the oppressor. Republicans are KKK. Get on Welfare and breed more Democrat voters.
Saw a Demoncrat talking about vouches, “Republicans want to take public money and divert it away from public to private schools.”
So if you want to introduce market forces — which improves every other product and service imaginable - into education, you’re ‘robbing’ public schools.
Good move! People have been writing in cursive for at least 1000 years. What happens to our history if the younger generations can no longer read historic documents and family memorabilia? Somebody will have to invent a new age Rosetta Stone to translate historic documents into text lingo!
But, as an aside, my wife gave cursive lessons to a Catholic priest who is well educated and from Mexico. They don't teach cursive there, either.
I’m in favor of it in order to prevent further detachment from key historical documents. We’re already pretty far removed from the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Imagine how much mischief could be made if no one was capable of going back to the original source document to read what it actually says? Same with old family documents and letters, all cursive. Further detachment from these things will lead to nothing good.
I also have a suspicion that learning to write in cursive has a positive effect upon a number of faculties and motor skills, not to mention creating an appreciation and concern over the aesthetics of thoughts put to paper.
When did it become not required?
I admit it’s been almost 40 years since I was in school, but I thought they still taught reading and writing.
It should be.
HADJAWOULDJAH!!
someone is actually thinking for “when the lights go out”!
Yes, good ol’ memorial Jeantel, the Negro who could not read any handwriting in the courtroom. Who could forget THAT posterchild of the Dept of Educ?
This has to happen if PRESIDENT Trump ever plans to make America literate again.
Ha, I hate cursive. The only class I ever failed was penmanship in the second grade. I still remember that. I was able to get by with printing but when I bought my first computer in the 80’s I taught myself to type and never looked back. My kids can type with as much speed and accuracy as any secretary.
