Tesla boss Elon Musk backs a 'basic income' for everyone because robots will take away our jobs…[tr]

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has doubled down on his support of a universal basic income as a possible solution for unemployment caused by the rise of machines equipped with artificial intelligence taking over the workforce.

A universal basic income would give a standard amount of money to every citizen to cover basic expenses like food and living costs each month.

At the World Government Summit in Dubai on Monday, Musk told a crowd that universal basic income is “going to be necessary” in the future.

Musk first joined the growing list of tech executives supporting the payment system in November when he spoke about the concept in an interview with CNBC.

Former President Barack Obama warned Congress in March that by 2030, as many as 50 percent of jobs could be replaced by robots, leaving millions of people without work. …

The concept of a “Guaranteed Annual Income” or “negative income tax” to replace all of welfare with a monthly check to bring individuals up to a minimum subsistence income and tax anything they earn above that amount was discussed during the Nixon administration. It’s one of those ideas that sounds simple and, if it would mean the firing of tens of thousands of social workers and replacement of the arcane system we have now, is attractive to think about. But good luck getting the government to actually “replace” anything that gives them power, control, and a pretend-to-work force of a million (mostly otherwise unemployable and black) Democrat bureaucrats.

Yep.

It is odd that Marx’ metaphysics is mostly ignored since his prescriptions and predictions are based on the idea that human nature will change (or be changed).

Sure, it’s called communism. Your company will be taken over by the Government and all profits will be distributed to the people.

Consider it a royalty. A robot takes your job, you are paid a royalty based on the robots production. If your royalty is 25% of the production you can expect quite a windfall. After all, they claim the robots can increase production 700%.
In other words, your royalty would be 1.75 times your current income.
Just imagine over the course of a few years robots take away 3 of your positions. Look at the windfall. Woohlah!!

Charles Murray(The Bell Curve) wrote a book recently about that. Everyone gets $10k right off the bat. If they screw up(non payment of child support) it comes out of their gift.

We make fun of this today, but it is coming, unless WWIII or the next plague comes first.

The advances in robotits and A.I. are staggering. Add 3D printed organs and longevity and we may not recognize our world in 10 years. No matter the training and increased skills, the numbers of people who will not be able to find work will cause chaos we cannot imagine.

We already have a ‘basic income’ in this country in the form of welfare, food stamps, wic, etc., etc., etc.

With $20 trillion in Bush and Obama debt it’s going to be awhile before we can do that, not to mention Social Security obligations.

We already have programs like this all over the US—just look at any failed city welfare state. With nothing to do and no purpose in life but to breed and eat the life forms become lower in intelligence with no desire to become better citizens of a civil society. Then there are those who actually have some intelligence and ambition, but they are soon siphoned off into anarchist groups—Islamists, communists, etc., because they see no hope of relevance. The robot-ruled society won't last long unless they exterminate the humans who will eventually rise to annihilate them and bring us all back to the 6th century. Does Elon Musk think these people will take up art and culture? History says otherwise.

Both of those latter predictions are more likely. Especially with all the rearming of “former” enemy nations while we have been disarming or neglecting (both accelerated by Obama).

I agree, but it’s going to be a very long time before it’s fiscally responsible.

If no one has a job, where will the money come from to pay guaranteed income? Maybe the gov can create it out of thin air.

Wasn’t it Nancy Pelosi who was touting about people having more time to pursue their desires?

“Overwhelmingly, for the American people, this is a liberation,” she contended, adding that the monstrous law will give citizens “the freedom to pursue [their] happiness.” http://www.westernjournalism.com/pelosi-celebrates-loss-full-time-jobs/

She said this in regards to the cuts business took due to Obamacare. But, this could just as easily have been said about robots/AI taking over jobs.

So as we watch them ignite the calls for GBI, lets look to some of our conservative philosophers with regards to this idea of ‘liberated time.’ I can’t help but have innate fear strike through my heart to think they will couch this all as “liberation,” all the while marching millions down the road to tyranny. And yes, maybe even the mark of the beast.

With a GBI everything will be tracked. What happens then if the GBI isn’t enough say for a medical emergency, buy a house...oh wait...you won’t get enough to really own private property like a house or car.

Economics aren’t going to change either. Government maximums become real-life minimums. Any price not controlled by the government will rise to reflect the added money supply. Especially rising will be recreation and amusement.

GBI = totalitarianism. It can’t be otherwise, although at least the totalitarianism could have its humorous aspects, like ‘Idiocracy’.
