HARVEY WEINSTEIN SEEKING A FIGHT?

There is no one in Hollywood who delights in offending Catholics more than Harvey Weinstein: he has made a long list of anti-Catholic films.

Now he is at it again, putting the final touches on his latest contribution to Catholic-themed films, Mary Magdalene. No release date has been set.

In December, the online edition of the Hollywood Reporter asked rhetorically if the movie, starring Rooney Mara, “will spark controversy among conservative Christians?” Co-producer Iain Canning said it wouldn’t. Time will tell if he is right, but one thing is certain: Weinstein is laying the groundwork for a fight.

Weinstein is quoted by Screen International saying, “I’ll probably take a vacation around the time the film comes out because over the years the Catholic League have [sic] made me their poster boy. I get sent lovely letters [saying things] like ‘Dear Jew mother******’.”

Ever wonder how Liberal hollywood never makes movies about Esau and Jacob and how Esau sold his soul for a bowl of soup?

Of course the Secular filth that run Hollyweird are a bunch of frickin JINOs who never opened up the Torah once in their lives or if they did it was when they were young and they still hate their parents for making them attend temple... and would have no idea that they themselves are Esau and they have sold their souls for the “Hollywood Soup” Lifestyle.

I think they are true self hating Jews that would rather import millions of Muslims that would behead themselves and actually righteous relatives then say one good thing about Religious Jews and Christians.

And if people completely ignored him, rather than giving him lots of free publicity, no one would ever hear about him. Of course, the converse theory is that the more they are ignored, the louder and more outrageous they become. But, on this one - pretend he isn’t there.

He is a liar if he is saying that the Catholic League used that language in addressing him.

I don’t like the guy, but he was the force behind financing:

The Kings Speech and The Artist, exceptional movies both, each receiving the Academy Award for Best Picture.

The Artist is:

Black and white, silent and full frame - imagine that type of film winning best picture.

The Kings Speech is about WWII and how the King kept his country’s solidarity while overcoming a speech impediment.

“Ever wonder how Liberal hollywood never makes movies about Esau and Jacob and how Esau sold his soul for a bowl of soup?”

That was his birthright, not his soul.

It seems to me though that the Catholic League is kind of proving Weinstein’s point, since they seem to be assuming it’s an “anti-Catholic” movie even before it has been finished, much less been screened. If Weinstein went and made a perfectly unoffensive movie, would the Catholic League protest simply because it was Weinstein making it, even before they had seen it?

Hollywood does not know how to make religious-themed movies any more.

A story about Mary Magdalene could be very interesting if it stayed true to the biblical narrative. Mel Gibson in his Passion film proved he knew how to add embellishments that complemented the narrative (mostly).

But look how poorly some of their big budget religious films have done. The recent Exodus may have broken even — not a spectacular endorsement for a $140 million investment.

The Ben Hur remake lost probably in the neighborhood of a $100 million.

The Noah film was one of the worst movies ever made despite a budget comparable to the most expensive films ever made. Most of the box office numbers came from marketing designed to fool people into believing it was something remotely like the biblical story of Noah. American movie goers are a bit too savvy to fall for such ploys, relying on reviews and word of mouth. Even with more than $300 million at the box office, the movie probably lost money.

Meanwhile, movies that respect the Christian faith tend to do very well. Mel Gibson’s Passion film is still the film to beat when it comes to moderately budgeted independents. Lower budget films by Christian filmmakers like the Kendrick brothers tend to bring a very solid return on investment due to a small but loyal fan base.

Yet Hollywood doesn’t learn.

How about we all just IGNORE the film. Don’t give him any free publicity!

Mary Magdalene was not a prostitute, nor did she bathe Jesus’ feet in precious ointment. She was the first to bear the Gospel.
