I saw them often, and don’t remember any such intro.
OK, I’m old enough to remember; Stuart Smalley was his character and he was not well liked even then!

I remember Al Franken well from Saturday Night Live as a matter of fact. He was lousy on that, and he is lousy to watch now as a senator. I cannot see why people voted for him.
I actually met Franken c. summer of 1980 hanging out with BU buddies at the “Spit” new wave club in Boston. (Part of the historic 13-15 Lansdowne St. Jordan Marsh warehouse \ club address by Fenway Park)
I’m not going to revise my recollection based on our current diametrically opposed political views - I always liked that kind of droll, dry humor that he traded in with Davis (Stuart Smalley, not very much).
I recognized him and we had a short, friendly chat about his SNL doings-I shook his hand and he had an unexpectedly strong grip. Never would I have imagined him to have ever become a politician or one that could win a Senate seat but MN is one place we’ve seen will go for the unusual
He was that self help guru who was desperately insecure.
I knew him on a movie set my friend was working on. He was a total Napoleon complex a hole trying to control everyone and being a general dick.
