What won 1977: Annie Hall

What should have won 1977: Star Wars

Either Star Wars or Smokey and the Bandit (which wasn't nominated but that's beside the point.)

Oops. I see you beat me to it.

I remember the rewards that year. They showed the stupid “lobster in the kitchen” scene and then showed an exhilarating battle scene from Star Wars, and then announced the winner.

All I could think was, “seriously?!”

Saturday night fever which I always thought is one of the best pictures ever made (and was Gene Siskels all time favorite) wasn’t even nominated for best picture and Richard Dreyfuss won for “Goodbye girl” over Travolta despite to this day I will say Dreyfuss was high as hell on cocaine that entire movie bragging about his high IQ. Yeah, I’m sure that was in the script. That was the same Academy Awards where probably the most annoying song ever written in the history of mankind “You light up my life” won over “Nobody does it better”. Matter of fact none of the soundtrack from Saturday night fever was nominated as well.

Agree with you 100% re. Star Wars. The film took the world by storm and changed movies forever and it LOSES to Annie Hall? Direct slap in the face to the ticket buying public.
