Also note how shabby everything was. You have really nice building, but they looked run down and the street was obviously ill maintained in the first picture of Moscow. The building were dirty.
What you get with socialism, if no one owns it, not one can fix it and no one cares.
And if you DID fix it up, you were at risk of somebody with Party contacts “appropriating” it from you.
