Always interesting to see color photos from an era where the majority were black&white. Color photos look much more “alive”. These are also interesting in that the photos look unrehearsed, which always gives a better feel for the time and place.

All pics are chilling. To think that these photographs were taken during a time when torture and execution by the NKVD were a daily practice. Stalin ruled supreme then.

When I looked at these pictures I wondered how this people could be an enemy of the US.
Thank God they were able to throw off the shackles of Communism.
During a visit there it occurred to me that anyone who had the concession to supply yellow exterior paint in the country would have ended up richer than the Czars. These photos support that conclusion.
Seems like the Russians made a devil’s bargain. They produce geniuses in every human endeavor except politics.
The second photo from the top is in front of a butcher shop. The signs at the top read “meat” and “fish,” and in between is a small sign reading, “store #20.”
I can’t make out most of the words on the signs on either side of the door, but the one at the bottom of the sign to the right reads “poultry.”
