Check the local laws first. There are some places (and I'd assume a lot of them are near progressive colleges) where self-defense in any premeditated form is a criminal act.
As with that newspaper which listed the names and addresses of licensed gun owners a few years ago.
So far, the guy that shot the rioter on the University of Washington campus hasn’t been charged. I’m guessing if they questioned and released him that he won’t be.
While it is illegal to have a gun on the UW campus, I have read of numerous cases of self-defense where that point (having a weapon where you weren’t supposed to) is never brought up, and the shooter is not punished. Goes under the heading of “I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6”.
The college does not have a legitimate court of law to my knowledge and therefore has no legal jurisdiction. If the man was carrying legally in the state of Washington, then he was carrying legally in the state of Washington. The university cannot impose criminal sanction. They can, however, remove armed individuals from their property.
