If users are happy running such an antique and insecure operating system they'll probably keep using it until the hardware gives up or the Sun expands to finally vapourise the Earth, whichever is sooner. i have an XP box and a Win7 box, both have their purpose and yes i will run them both till the sun expands
Second, Microsoft did a good job encouraging people to move away from Windows 8... what, by releasing it??? nobody wanted it and they couldn't have make it any suckier if they tried
