As a matter of fact although Sinatra may have sung the song, it was Paul Anka who wrote the lyrics and music to it.

He will be changing the words to the song when it sings it sometime tonight.

>> it was Paul Anka who wrote the lyrics and music to it <<

Anka did write the lyrics, and he owned all rights to the music in the USA. But the actual melody was written by an obscure French composer whom nobody remembers.

Also, based on his total ownership of the rights, Anka could have recorded the song first himself. But apparently he decided that giving it to Sinatra would produce greater royalties for himself. Probably the correct decision!

Then there was the famous version by Elvis, but I digress . . . .

Finally, it has been reported that Nancy once said about her father’s opinion of the song:

“He didn’t like it. That song stuck and he couldn’t get it off his shoe. He always thought that song was self-serving and self-indulgent.”
