Ms. DeVos is one smart lady. With executioners like Al Frankenstein, Patty Murray and the maniacal Elizabeth Warren lobbing shrapnel-loaded hand grenades in her face, her best bet was to keep smiling, nodding, filibustering the questions, giving safe answers and allowing these disgusting senators NOTHING TO HANG THEIR HOOKS ON.
I would have done the same.

She knew VERY WELL how to play the game with these grandstanding Dem senators, and their disgust with her for not falling into their traps was evident after she got under their collective skins for three straight hours....and they were still sucking air at the end of the Inquisition.

Again, the main point of their attack was her lack of knowledge of rules and regulation and laws in reference to the education complex. If I was her, I would have said something like...
“Both Obama’s nominees for this position of secretary of education were deeply entrenched inside the education complex, and had intimate knowledge of rules and regulations. Yet, student performance is worse than ever. Which can mean only one thing, that we need to think outside the box, and serious change of direction is needed. That is the exactly the same reason Donald Trump won the election. He is a consummate outsider, same as me.”
