25% promised to quit (or at least seriously consider it) if Trump was elected.
Follow thru already, folks.

Layoffs are unlikely except for the normal layoffs that come with any change in Presidential party. There will be a few consultants that are laid off for a while until new projects are budgeted. But mostly DC will still be a hotbed of economic action from government over spending.

The FedGov is a major part of the US economy. If it were to begin massive layoffs, we’d end up in one hell of a recession.

Then again, Chemotherapy is also painful, but sometimes the disease calls for an initially painful process if you are serious about curing it.

two things:
1) it depends upon what one means by ‘cuts’. ‘cuts’ have predominately meant a reduction in the projected rise of the costs. that is from baseline budgeting, when your starting point is the current budget and you go up from there.
2) real budget costs will clobber the economy, and it isn’t just in those laid off. massive slashing of costs will cause bad things in the economy that will hurt everybody.

to slim down the federal government, i’d start with a 5% across the board cut. by cut i mean you get 5% less this year than last year. if you exempt one part of the government, you create sacred cows that provide political openings for your opponents, and ammunition to your enemies. if everybody shares the pain, you are more likely to get results, by having everybody bear their fair share. and i would do this 5% each year until the budget comes 5% below revenues, the extra to be used in buying down the over debt.

This is just the kind of thing our hired hands in Washington better be "considering," or a world-wide depression is all but certain.

I wouldn't fire but about half of them. Start with "non-essential personnel," as Washingtonians define themselves whenever a snow flurry happens.
