So this will be a diesel burning more-costly gasoline? Why not just go with a real diesel and try to maufacture them at a lower cost?

Unless you are talking about a premium grade of gasoline, diesel is more expensive. On average .20/gal.

I would think using gasoline in the diesel engine would be much easier for those of us in the colder latitudes. No more block heaters, no more 1/2 warming up, no waiting for glow plugs.

Mazda hasn’t had much luck getting their diesel engines qualified for the USA market. The promised Mazda 6 diesel never happened outside of Australia and a few other markets. Remember VW had to cheat to get past diesel emissions requirements.
