What’s a straphanger?
One who is having to stand owing to no seat being available. Typically there are straps to hold onto to help you keep ypur balance.

A “straphanger” is someone who rides public transportation in a big city (esp. NYC). Buses and subway trains used to have leather straps attached the overhead; riders would hold them (hang from them, really) and sway with the movements of the vehicle instead of falling on their butts.
