Peter Thiel, the Silicon Valley billionaire and outspoken Donald Trump supporter, is considering a 2018 bid for California governor, according to three Republicans familiar with his thinking.
Thiel, who co-founded PayPal and was an early investor in Facebook, has been discussing a prospective bid with a small circle of advisers, including Rob Morrow, who has emerged as his political consigliere.

He strongly supported Trump. And he is worth nearly as much.

Mr. Thiel is second only to Pres. Trump in courage. He knows how the howling packs of hate-mongers will attack him.
I read the interview and I think that he was talking tongue-in-cheek when he talked abouT California secession.
Not that he could ever not be successful, but 2018 might be too soon. The anti-Trump sentiment in the major population areas of the State is massive and is mindlessly not open to reason. Maybe later after Trump has unquestionably proven himself by the success of his policies.
Peter Thiel also thinks that injecting yourself with “young blood” will help restore your youth and maybe be a key to immortality.
Only problem: where do they get all that “young blood”?

A waste of time and money! If he does decade to run for California Governor, then he will lose and lose badly, in a “lost cause for conservatism” state.
It sounds like Mr. Thiel could support Trump in not only peacefully “forcing” the feds to surrender state powers that the feds have stolen from the states back to the states, but also in putting a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, taxes that Congress cannot justify under its constitutional Article I, Section 8-limited powers and other express constitutional expenses.

”From the accepted doctrine that the United States is a government of delegated powers, it follows that those not expressly granted, or reasonably to be implied from such as are conferred, are reserved to the states, or to the people. To forestall any suggestion to the contrary, the Tenth Amendment was adopted. The same proposition, otherwise stated, is that powers not granted are prohibited [emphasis added].” —United States v. Butler, 1936.
Once patriots support Trump, Thiel and other proven leaders in putting a stop to unconstitutional federal taxes, then the states will probably find a tsunami of new revenues that they probably won’t know what to do with, establishing their own healthcare and social security programs for starters.

And if the states should eventually decide that the feds have some kind of a “magic wand” to run social spending programs better then the states can (yeah, right), then the states can always amend the Constitution to grant the feds the specific powers to do so.

Since Trump entered the ’16 presidential race too late for patriots to make sure that there were state sovereignty-respecting candidates on the primary ballots, patriots need make sure that such candidates are on the ’18 primary ballots so that they can be elected to support Trump in draining the unconstitutionally big federal government swamp.
Such a Congress will also be able to finish draining the swamp with respect to getting the remaining state sovereignty-ignoring, activist justices off of the bench.
Noting that the primaries start in Iowa and New Hampshire in February ‘18, patriots need to challenge candidates for federal office in the following way.
Patriots need to qualify candidates by asking them why the Founding States made the Constitution’s Section 8 of Article I; to limit (cripple) the federal government’s powers.
Patriots also need to find candidates that are knowledgeable of the Supreme Court's clarifications of the federal government’s limited powers listed below.

I surely hope he runs. I think he definitely could win because many Californians have to feel that they have lost their state. Perhaps a new face of courage could change things. And, like Trump, he doesn’t have to make corrupt alliances to run because he can finance his own campaign.
Thiel would have my vote if he ran - he’s as close to my ideal for a candidate as California is likely to come any time soon. But for that reason, he’s not likely to win. California’s voting populace has become overwhelmingly leftist, thanks to uncontrolled illegal immigration and the fact that Hispanics overwhelmingly vote Democrat.
I can imagine that the situation could get so bad in
California that a majority of the residents may come
to their senses and elect a conservative Republican.
But who knows. They may be so devoted to their Leftist
ideology that they can't see or accept reality.

Actually, CA has elected more GOP governors the last 25 years than Dem. If Thiel pushes a business/jobs heavy platform, then he has a real chance.
Not even that; if he puts an “R” after his name, he’s history. California is gone.
