I too have taken to watching the Premiership (England) games. Still haven’t gotten the position names, but you don’t need to to enjoy the game. It is like tackle football played in soccer uniforms. Virtually no timeouts, few substitutions (but they do have temporary subs for head injuries and blood). The referee talks to the players (he is miked up and has a camera) to let them know how he expects them to play. In one game a couple of players got into each others’ faces and a few minutes later the ref is making them shake hands!
Rugby seems to get a lot of things right. You kick your extra points from where the try was scored. Score in the middle of the field, you get an easy shot. Score on the side lines, a much tougher one. They use video replay to make sure they get things right—even if a foul was committed or not. And then there is “relegation”. The last-place team at the end of the year is relegated out of the league and replaced by the best “minor league” team. Kind of keeps owners and players motivated.
Had 15 minutes of rain last night. Ice Sheet covers everything now.
Forecast is it is going to be bad tonight and all day Sunday.
That won't stop people from going to Arrowhead though.
No NFL in my house any more. And once I was a very big raiders fan. That was when they were in Oakland the first time, and then when they were in LA.
Doesn’t this make Oakland the first and only city that has had an NFL team move away TWO times ???
I wonder if the California legislature will pass a law to try and prevent them from leaving?
I got some powder and primers this week. I’m reloading!
Just watched two Japanese teams: Suntory vs TNN Technical. Awesome game. I love the fact that Japan has had a rugby history since 1865. Stands are packed for good games like this one.
They'll be more fans of the visiting teams attending their games than fans of the home team.
I don't understand how the developers figure they'll consistently sell out an NFL-size stadium in a city with a population of about 600,000 ... which would make it the smallest city with an NFL team apart from Green Bay at 300,000. Then again, Green Bay is only 112 miles from Milwaukee (1.5 million) and is not in the middle of the friggin' desert!
Go figure!
If you get the NBC Sports Channel, they show the Premiership League games. The schedule is a bit odd—they take off two or three weeks for international matches.
I'm sure he thinks that once he's done fleecing Las Vegas, Oakland will want him back again and he can fleece them too.
And it’s going to be big-time “Fair Weather Fan” town. They won’t be able to give tickets away if they suck.
The LV metro area has 2 MM residents.
SD relocating took LA away as an option.
Goldman-Sachs to provide $1.2B to the deal.
The Giants and Jets share; the Rams and Chargers will.
If the stadium won’t be ready until 2020, where do they play until then?
So Las Vegas will have more teams than San Diego.
The Athletics are likely to leave too.
The Athletics are likely to leave too.
I haven’t watched the NFL all year.

Maybe we should organize a protest.
