Some ‘significant others’ think taking a bite of their partners’ food straight off their partner’s plates is cute and a way to bond. This is seen a lot in restaurants, where they boldly (and repeatedly!) invade their partner’s plate, instead of ordering the same dish for themselves. The other half of the population, raised not to ever share sodas, salads, dinner plates, bubble gum or ice cream cones would aggressively disagree.

I have a sister who would do that. Never order anything, then eat off everybody elses meals. By the time I got to my middle teens it got quite old. One night while eating out she said her usual “I’ll just have a bite of yours” . I lost it and said “like hell you will! If you want something, order it now. This is mine!” While my parents were angry at the way I handled it, they understood and calmly suggested to my sister to place her own order. i don’t know if my parents talked to her later or not, but she stopped doing it.

I had been married 11 years when we built a house. We had friends over that was helping me hang drywall on the ceiling.

The wife made lunch and we were all at the table eating and talking when the Mrs. Decided to reach over and take something off my plate to eat.

I caught myself just as my fork approached her hand and didn’t draw blood but I shocked everyone at the table - Including myself. She has never attempted that before or after that. But I will never forget the shocked expression on her face.

I do remember what she reached for was also still on the table in a serving dish. I was just flabbergasted she did what she did.

P.S. That was 23 years ago. She still prepares the meals just doesn’t mess with my plate once served. ;)
