DUNDALK, Maryland (AP/Meredith) - A man who got upset when his wife took a bite of his grilled cheese sandwich opened fire inside his home and sparked an hours-long standoff with police, according to authorities.

Baltimore County police worked to diffuse the bizarre situation Sunday night.

During the standoff, a woman and three teenagers ran outside the home and told officers a man started shooting through the basement floor after he found out someone ate a piece of his sandwich, WBAL-TV

I made an open faced sammich on Sunday with my Brother In Law’s home raised pig ham. Put Gruyere on the bread and melted in the toaster over. Ham on the cast iron. Fried up some fennel bulb sliced thinly in olive oil with caraway seeds. Chunked and heated apple to half-sauce half-chunk.

Layered:

Bread + Gruyere
Ham
Fennel + Caraway
Apple Sauce Chunks

Damn. I would kill for that Sammy, I tell you what.

I had been married 11 years when we built a house. We had friends over that was helping me hang drywall on the ceiling.

The wife made lunch and we were all at the table eating and talking when the Mrs. Decided to reach over and take something off my plate to eat.

I caught myself just as my fork approached her hand and didn’t draw blood but I shocked everyone at the table - Including myself. She has never attempted that before or after that. But I will never forget the shocked expression on her face.

I do remember what she reached for was also still on the table in a serving dish. I was just flabbergasted she did what she did.

P.S. That was 23 years ago. She still prepares the meals just doesn’t mess with my plate once served. ;)

This was a great story. Heard it first thing Mon morning on the radio (we’re local).

Makes me worry about my son, though! Grilled-cheese lover, for sure!
