Last year’s College Football Playoff championship game was a classic. This year’s was even better.

And in the end, Clemson got its revenge over Alabama.

Deshaun Watson hit Hunter Renfrow for a two-yard touchdown pass with one second to play as the Tigers edged the Crimson Tide, 35-31, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Monday night. The win gave Clemson its second national title in football and its first since 1981.

The winning score capped a nine-play, 68-yard drive that was made necessary after Alabama's freshman quarterback, Jalen Hurts, scampered 30 yards to put the Tide up 31-28 with 2:07 to play.

But that was one second too many to leave Watson, who just about matched his 405-yard, four-touchdown performance in last year’s title game, which Clemson lost 45-40. This time, Watson finished with 36 completions on 56 attempts, 420 yards and three touchdowns. Most importantly, Watson did not throw any interceptions against a usually opportunistic Alabama defense.

I agree with the amount of time to play the game. The 4 plus hours was ridiculous. The sport I watch the most is soccer and those games are done and over in less than 2 hours.

I called it yesterday as Clemson and the over, 35-28 and I was off by a field goal but still beat the bookies...Go Tigers, although I prefer the Gamecocks!

I wonder how many of my friends were “stunned” when they woke up this morning because they had The Under and went to bed at the half?....heh heh...

Well, when Old Ben was a lad and walked to two miles to school in the depths of winter, the cheerleaders wore their unis come rain, sleet, or snow.

There are no timeouts after first downs. They stop the clock until they reset the sticks. Some crews start the clock much faster than others.

Nope. And I had no opinion about Clemson before the groping incidents. And no also, I don’t think Ohio State deserved to win. But Clemson disgusts me now, no matter what.

Meryl Streep wouldn’t know a touchdown from a touchback.

Did you hear how the commentators last night characterized that incident? They called it “naughty”.

In soccer, a game goes non-stop for each half in terms of time elapsed plus time added for stoppage time. That's why strikers are easily the highest-paid player on the team. Surprisingly, Nil-nil (0-0) ties are surprisingly uncommon at the very highest levels of soccer, mostly because strikers are so great nowadays.

But the NCAA is looking at time management in college football games. They may adopt rules almost identical to the NFL to really shorten games (most NFL games are usually over in just over three hours nowadays).

I didn’t watch the game. But I am not surprised by the reaction. At ANY other time and place, if someone did that, he would have been arrested for sexual assault. But, from what the Clemson players said, they do it all the time. So, I guess their coaches and the officials in the games ALWAYS turn a blind eye to the behavior. None of those aforementioned are setting a good example. Period.

A team that was not expected to win turn out to be the best team to close a year full of suprises.

Clearly the game needs a do-over or a recount of the touchdowns.

Yes Bama’s chances were hurt when their running back Scarbrough, who was having a great game, got injured, but on the other hand they caught a big break by not having Tony Brown thrown out of the game for the helmet-to-helmet hit on Clemson receiver Mike Williams.

That hit on Williams hurt Clemson’s offense for the rest of the first half, Williams wasn’t really himself again until the second half.

This was almost a complete inverse of last year’s game.

But bottom line, Clemson overcame 2 turnovers and won the game. Kudos to the Tigers.

I am a Tide Fan, but Bama lost because of all their 3 and outs, the Defense was overwhelmed.

Roll Tide as I expect them to be in the national title hunt next season. And I hope that Clemson is there is meet us.
