Okay, I’ll say it:
He should have taken the incoming voltage to ground, short-circuiting the input to the transformer. Only takes a ground-post and some twisted wire tossed across the input wires.
Alternately, he could have just opened the breaker that serves the transformer, most have switches on the cabinet to open the breaker.

I wasn’t referring to people who may have a clue as to what they are doing...
I was referring to the 10 or so drunken buddies of his who would be critiquing his dilemma and attempting to ‘show him how it was done’..
