In the last few days, leading up to Snowmageddon 2017, I was warned many times that a devastating snowstorm was headed to Atlana, GA. The weatherdroids were all very upset (and yet somehow excited), and Governor Deal declared a State Emergency over it.
From the photos I will share, below, you will see why.
When I woke up and went outside, I was greeted by towering snow drifts like this. There is absolutely no way I would be able to step over these monsterous drifts and get out my front door. Time to try getting out the back patio. |
The back patio was even worse. I did, however, see how I could use some decorative holiday pumpkins to clamber over the incredibly high snowdrifts. After about an hour, I was able to see why TV reception went out. |
The TV Dish was completely covered with snow and thick ice. There was no way I could get all of it off, so I decided to see how the car fared. |
There was NO way I was going to get this car out of the snow drifts completely covering it. Unless I called Triple-A or waited until spring thaw, I was going NOWHERE. |
I managed to struggle around to the front, and was greeted with this sight: Our apartment complex pool was completely buried by blizzard snow. |
Obviously, this harrowing tale is meant to warn all of you of the incredible power of Mother Nature and the deadly nature of winter snowstorms.
PLEASE BE SAFE!!!!!
I’m in northwestern North Carolina near the Virginia border. Looks like maybe 8” out there, still snowing but it’s getting brighter and a breeze is kicking up, seems like it’s moving out. Pretty snow, all over everything, tree branches and such. The wind’ll take care of that this afternoon. Supposed to be extremely cold by our standards, high below freezing today, teens tonight. Sunday night low single digits, we don’t see that very often.
Do you think this will affect the Jan 20 Inauguration of Donald Trump? I'm concerned that Obama will use this Snowmageddon to cling to the reins of power.
I heard Obama might use this National Emergency to postpone the Trump inauguration.
Please, Laz. Take this advice from a lifetime northerner.
Buy yourself a very long rope. If you MUST venture out from the house, tie one end to your waist and the other to the house so you can find your way back. You don’t want to have the neighbors find you after the April snowmelt.
LOL.
I’m visiting in Knoxville(about an inch fell) so I don’t know if we got anything in Warner Robins.
If one snowflake was spotted, I can guarantee the grocery shelves were picked clean.
Better not, I’ll go and shovel DC out myself to make sure the Kenyanesian Usurpation ends!
Hahaha we can always count on Laz to overcome every obstacle. Sunny in Central TX, no snow, but the low of 18 did get our attention. Bet there were still some people in Austin running in the dark in their tee shirt and shorts, but they have no sense.
The picture is inverted. It was uphill - both ways.
I appreciate the danger of yer precarious situation during this brutal winter freeze. I'm hunkered down in our alternate Lab vault here at our secret fortress in 92270.
Thursday was brilliantly sunny, with the clearest air I have ever seen through. Temperature was a nippy 70o. Ventured out briefly with trusted security guard to the Living Desert. Walked through the Monarch butterfly tent, & gazed at zebras.
Two degrees cooler today. South wind at one mph. Some distant fluffy clouds over the mountains.
Pool is heated to 80o; spa is heated to 102o.
I have a week's worth of excellent Italian food from Castelli's in the fridge, another evening of veal Wellington from Café Des Beaux-Arts, & a fresh bottle of Hornitos Añejo (80686 83542). Come on down some time.
Perhaps we can hang out in Atlanta at the Peachtree Plaza RitzCarlton at the end of Q1 2018 for G4G13, if we can both survive that long.
13 Days + 15 minutes !!!!!!
Left the cool (at the freezing mark) house to get on the boat. Get off the rock and there is a bit of snow in the ditches, but nothing to be concerned with. Then mom calls and sez it's snowing to beat the band at her place 4 hours away along Hwy 3.
Get there after crossing a couple of mountain passes, some slick spots but nothing hairy. The snow stopped at mom's after dropping 8". It is considerably colder there, though, about 15*F
It snows overnight, but I must travel on! The first hour is nasty, slick and rather unpleasant, but when I get to 97C, it's improving. Get on the Coquihalla at Merritt and there are 2 1/2 of 3 lanes mostly clear. Hallelujah!
If you've watched "Highway Thru Hell", you'll know what these roads are like in winter. Fortunately there was no major carnage, just a few vehicles skidded off the road.
Get to my Jasper, and it's COLD. -10, snowing and blowing. Stopped long enough to put $50 of diesel in the truck and off to kid sister's.
NASTY NASTY NASTY! The further I got out of the park, the colder and snowier it got. Then the wind DIED, snow started tapering off, and then I was re-introduced to ice fog. That stuff does weird things to windows and lights, I'll tell you whut!
Get to my sister's and there is 6" of fresh stuff from that afternoon, but the snow has stopped and the thermometer took a dive: it's -25 and there's a 20mph breeze blowing.
Did the Christmas thing with my family there and visited some friends.
The trip home was uneventful except for the blizzard I tried to beat but ran into 20 miles south of Valemount.
I strongly dislike winter.

Laz, if you haven’t gone all “Donner Party” due to the ATLANTA SNOWMAGEDDON Snowy Snowpocalypse—enjoy!
For some reason, Doris Day - Snowfall reminds me of the TV cult classic Twin Peaks mixed w a bit of Twilight Zone.
Miniature aliens left a snow circle on the back porch.
Looks like flights out of ATL could be cancelled for weeks. I was stuck there for two days coming back from a deployment-2”!

Donner, party of 12, your table is ready!

Donner, party of 11, your table is ready!
LOL, and they were barefoot!
I had to wade through similar conditions to get to my chicken coop in the backyard. LOL!
Central Texas....woke up it was 23 degrees outside and 36 in our bedroom! No snow but the cat was also cold!!
We live in an old farmhouse right now from the 1800’s....didn’t sell insulation at home depot and evidently they never read newspapers...!!!
May we all survive this national cooling...
Hats off to the power company. All that ferocious weather and you still had electric.
