I’m thinking the same thing. Supposedly most recent address is Naples FL, so why come into Ft. Lauderdale airport from Canada?

I’m still trying to figure out if there’s more than one. Head shots yes - apparently he was quite proficient. Also heard a rumor of someone yelling I’m not Jewish. Not sure what’s what at this point.

But the real world exception here in FL is that if you are checking a weapon in for your checked baggage (weapon must be declared) on an outbound flight, or picking it up at baggage claim from an inbound flight and departing, you can transit in and out of the terminal with it, as long as it is the “two lock box.”

See #82, and baggage claim is not a TSA-secured area.

You can carry up to a certain amount of ammo in checked baggage.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking that someone had left it for him in the restroom prior to his arrival. Seemed like a good theory.

Long flight, were victims on same flight?

Was their hallucinatory fumes on the plane?

Was he planning something elsewhere but at luggage area felt like his plans were compromised?

Lastly, maybe he did have Trump derangement, but why explode in terminal.

TSA

Ammunition

Ammunition is prohibited in carry-on baggage, but may be transported in checked baggage.

“An airport is a classic place to not bring a gun, especially if traveling.”

I know...schools, too. And, I obey the law.

Our airport’s baggage claim area is inside just across the arrivals pickup “street” from the public parking deck. There would be absolutely no problem to cruise on in with a gun. There are many non-passenger folks standing in the baggage claims area welcoming arriving passengers. Just easy to get there without hassle. Same with the ticketing area directly upstairs.

I’ve always felt the baggage and ticketing areas were vulnerable.

Heck...bad guys could do a drive-by and shoot thru the glass...especially at ticketing.

FAKE NEW DETECTOR GOING OFF

Wait there are two odd parts to this story.

(1) A firearm was in checked luggage on a flight from Canada.

(2) He had available ammunition for the firearm.

If you have ever gone hunting in Canada from the USA, you know that crossing the boarder with a firearm is not a trivial exercise. Last time my uncle tried to take a handgun into Canada while driving the Al-Can highway to Alaska he had to have a handgun, placed in a sealed container that had Canadian seals affixed to it and if he had broken the seal, he would have been in really deep trouble and they checked it on his leaving Canada. As to the shotgun he took that was less difficult to cross with in a motor vehicle, but still a big deal. I have a friend who got stopped at the boarder with an air rifle in his RV and they made him turn around and check it with the local sheriff before entering Canada.

Handguns are not something that normal people regularly own in Canada. I would wager that if the firearm were in checked luggage, it would be flagged and have special handling and screening.

Normally a firearm and ammunition must be stored in separate and locked pieces of baggage. I would be surprised if TSA (or the Canadian equivalent) didn't spot ammo or the firearm on their baggage screening.

I find it hard to believe that a bag containing a firearm and ammo would have been tossed out with regular baggage at the airport terminal in Florida.

I heard the radio show interupted by this special report and the reporter was lamenting that firearms are allowed on planes in checked bags. Reporter was wrong when he stated “only in extreme situations like military can check firearms” but he was a reporter and as usual, knows nothing about rules.

YES, anyone can check a firearm. Baggage claims are NOT on the “sterile” side of the airport. Wether the gun was checked in a bag or walked in from a parking lot the result would have been the same.

Now prepare new rules banning ALL firearms from flights. travel state to state with your hunting rifles? Not any more soon.
