The three hooded and masked men broke into a West 36th Street jewelry wholesaler at 12:01 a.m. Sunday in what appears to be an inside job — while 7,000 cops were distracted protecting Times Square revelers just a few blocks away.

The source said the thieves “100 percent” planned the heist to coincide with the ball drop.

They made off with around $6 million in gems and are still at large, police sources said.

Very big crowds of people into which they could easily blend, too.
Not to mention $6M of quality jewels could be carried in a coat pocket!

WPIX is reporting that one of the safes wasn’t locked. I suppose the next thing we’ll hear is that one of the employees didn’t show up for work today....

Was just thinking about “Die Hard With A Vengence” where Bruce Willis’ character stops two kids stealing from a bodega, and the kid says, “It’s Christmas! You could steal city hall!”

And no need for the “blue wrench” (cutting torch).

A GOOD safe is torch resistant.

Now a plasma cutter should get you a hole?
But they throw some mighty slag!

Might diminish the value of your haul?

ATMs aren’t in the “good safe” category. But unless you know where to cut with a torch, the cash stacks might be carbonized by the time it’s fully opened. Diamond cutter wheel might work cleaner.

Urban legend has it that, anything combustible inside a safe, can cause an explosion with a torch?

Diamond cutting steel is S L O W!!!

If you happen to remember the Beagle Boys,’Paul Bunyan’ Machine, that might be the ticket? About the fifth photo down.

They’ll get considerably less than $6 on the black market especially if the diamonds are coded. That’s also assuming the owner didn’t fudge the amount, cough. Their take may only be around 1 million.

The cops should look closely at upcoming employee deaths/suicides.
