ALL brachycephalic breeds are prone to esophagus and trachea issues.

It’s the price paid for breeding freaks of nature who cannot procreate or survive without human intervention.

And yes, I feel very strongly about these breeds.

:(

There’s an easy solution to the cost...
It’s called “new dog.”

I have had clients with four thousand dollar vet bills and monthly medication bills for their pets that run into hundreds every month.

It happens a little at a time. First the vet says, we can do some labs, just a couple of hundred dollars. Then saying the labs are inconclusive, a few x-rays, and of course the anesthesia to get the x-rays, there is a quick four hundred. Then well there is the mri, the quick little surgery and pretty soon your talking real money.

I firmly believe that there are vets who play this game with vulnerable people who are then saddled with bills and interest payments.

**...I go without *many* things to keep them covered...**

I hear ya. Decent pet care is expensive [so isn't crappy vet care] :(

And I don't have the discipline for a *pet health savings account* ....life happens, in this household.

What irks me, is that the pet insurance company, seems to find *loopholes* to avoid paying a claim; seems that these reasons come and go with a whim. That part, makes me uneasy.

We have an understanding vet now. Going in, he *knows* I’m on a fixed income and can’t afford *surprises*. He, so far, has been kind enough to work with me, and orders special tests, etc., sparingly.

When I told my doctor I couldn’t afford an operation,
he offered to touch-up my X-rays.

You can spend as much as you want to. Human level health care is available for pets. Life has value - repairing it costs other lives in terms of work hours; honest question is whether it is worth your own years to give a pet more months.

Your lovely *Norman* looks just like a cat we had years ago, the kids named *Cinnamon*. He was a wanderer ...would go away for weeks at a time, but always came home, eventually. A gypsy at heart. :)

Critters give us so much. Looks like you had quite a pair.

Not all of us are Leona Helmsley.

*** FILE *** Leona Helmsley and her dog Trouble photographed in Leona Helmsley's Park Lane Hotel apartment. Friday, January 31, 2003 in New York. Helmsley left her beloved white Maltese, named Trouble, a $12 million trust fund, according to her will, which was made public Tuesday Aug. 28, 2007 in surrogate court, according to published reports. But two of Helmsley's grandchildren got zilch from the late luxury hotelier and real estate billionaire's estate.

The only “loophole” in Trupanion is the requirement that all insurers all have.

No coverage for pre-existing conditions.

My dogs had their policies from the day they came home as tiny babies, thereby circumventing that loophole completely.

They had to go to the vet for a checkup to get their insurance and the vet found them sound.

So, they have *no* pre-existing anythings.

Trupanion has THE best and most comprehensive coverage for everything.

Genetic diseases, injuries, you name it, they cover it, except for stuff like preventative care. such as shots or worming.

Odin needs periodic thyroid panels and they pay for them, too, as he did not have thyroid issues until a year after his policy went into effect.

For instance, both Seven and Odin have gone for x-rays when I thought they ate something awful.
Fully covered.
*If* they’d needed surgery, that also would have been covered and we’re talking $3000-5000 worth of work.

This is what keeps me from becoming a nervous wreck all the time...my dogs will be taken care of, no matter what.

:)

Maybe they got exactly what they deserved.

There are family members in my will that currently are being left the sum of one dollar so they can buy a clue.

The dogs have better coverage than I do and I go without *many* things to keep them covered.

Yes but is transgender surgery covered?

For $155,000 my dog would have to flush the toilet, cook and clean, do the shopping and laundry, mow the yard, and paint the house.
