I never trust these dogs even if someone says they are the most gentle and docile animals. There is no other breed of dog I’ve known that if they don’t know you they freeze and give you that dead eye look as if to say, “make any sudden movements and you’re dead!” A friend of mine had one and once I got to know it it seemed ok, but even still that took 20 minutes before he would be ok with ME. Every time I would come over his house, it would take that 20 minutes to pass his acceptance and if I didn’t see them for a few weeks it was like I was meeting the dog for the very first time all over again. The more scared I was made the dog more likely to bite so I had to pretend to be his friend. I still am lucky to have never been mauled by that dog.

Our daughter has one, a female. I was very doubtful but I think she lucked out. This dog is like a lab more than a pit bull. Her goal in life is to be a small lapdog. She’s reasonably well trained. She never met a stranger. Its her second pit bull. The previous one was the same. I think my daughter has a gift. When she was a teenager she had a horse that we got cheap because he was a biter. Our daughter worked with him (not in a conscious way but that’s just who she is) and eventually could mess with his head and mouth and any part of him in grooming and riding him. He loved her so much that I’m pretty sure he would have wanted to be a lap horse if we had let him in the house.

You shouldn’t judge all pitbulls by what some pitbulls do. Just because 10 - 25% may be a threat one day, it is wrong to “profile” these dogs and think they’re different from any other peace-loving dog. /s

My friend’s daughter had 3 of these dogs that she kept indoors. She also had a toddler. Thankfully, nothing happened, but I thought she was out of her mind.

Yeah, it’s truly sad how many people (including a fair number of Freepers) delude themselves into thinking these things are “normal” pets and not wild animals bred to kill.

Friend had a pit bull. Sweetest dog ever. They let it sleep with their handicapped child. Came home from work one day and house looked like scene from helter shelter. Blood EVERYWHERE!!! That sweet loving pit bull had viciously attacked and killed the other family pets, another dog and a cat.

on the show that featured loggers- one of the families the brown family i believe it was- the wife was watching her child play in the yard with their family rottweiller, and watched helplessly as the dog mauled her to death-

The sick thing is that the dog had bitten another family member I believe- might have been a friend- can’t remember now- some time before that

If you go online there is a list of dog attacks by breed- the numbers are ugly- of course owners of the most dangerous dogs will always claim it’s the owner’s fault- not the breed-
