(Attn: Gamers and Simmers:) Steam is down everywhere, and we don't know why

The outage appears to be worldwide.

It's not just you: Steam is down. As far as we can tell, it's down worldwide (a contact in Germany confirmed that it's down there), both the store and services, meaning that some of your single-player games won't work unless you go into offline mode. (I just tried to fire up Fallout 4 and it's a no-go; Escape Goat 2, on other hand, works fine, albeit without access to cloud saves.)

We don't know what's going on at this point, but I've emailed Valve for more information and will update when the situation changes. Hopefully, we'll be able to dive back into the Steam Winter Sale soon.

Steam “Winter” sale goes live, their site goes down. It used to work better as a Christmas sale, just sayin’.

Oh, maybe that’s why my son just turned up, looking for quarters so he can go to the laundromat.

Poor snowflakes.

Poor poor snowflakes.

Maybe mom will bring down some hot cocoa. And maybe their pajamas in the dryer are done.

(rolling eyes)

It’s probably muslims.

But that’s cool, I’m playing some Grim Dawn in offline mode.

OH NOES! NOT STEAM!

I’m gonna need a coloring book! I’m sure it is Donald Trump’s fault. He doesn’t like for anybody to have fun . . . to waste time . . . to be idly employed!

He’s . . . He’s . . . He’s a GAMIST!!!

You’re welcome. He’s taking his computer to the laundromat. I suspect he believes Steam is off because his dad did something to the router here ;-).

I’ve been meaning to try Steam for over a year now, I used to enjoy games when I was, oh, ten or so. Then suddenly it was all city building, violence or hidden objects. I like stories and quests. The only ones left were from Her Interactive and now they’re almost kaput, for reasons no one can explain. :(
Any good mysteries or quests on Steam?

There's been a LOT of Internet access troubles recently. Besides Free Republic being slow, I've had trouble accessing LiveJournal, YouTube videos load slowly, and even Facebook acts wonky at times. Is there a DDoS attack going on?

We know why. The Christmas sale. This happens every single year. The servers can never handle the load. I like Steam, good game selection and good prices, but it’s pretty pathetic how they run into this problem like clockwork.

D’oh. I was going to take another run at that mind-bogglingly frustrating race in Mad Max when I got home from work... oh well, I guess it will be my traditional viewing of “It’s A Wonderful Life” instead.

Tin foil hat time:

some people use games to communicate, instead of email.

Maybe somebody was going to use it that way (terrorist, pizzagate, Wikileaks, Assange, ???) and therefore a government decided to shut it down for the necessary period of time?

(Paranoid, to be sure; but then...)
