Words and Phrases to Lose in 2017
American Thinker ^ | Dec. 23, 2016 | Dennis Lund

Posted on 12/23/2016 7:24:10 AM PST by Michael.SF.

During a performance at Yoshi’s in Oakland, the late legendary Texas wordsmith Guy Clark asked the question: Is there a synonym for ‘Thesaurus’? He added that he never found one, but the word ‘lexicon’ was about as close as he could find.

The lexicon, the words and phrases used on a daily basis, constantly evolves as words may go in and out of vogue.

There is no decisive governing body determining which words to use or not use, but I sometimes wish there were. Words often need to be dropped, either from over usage, laziness, or because of misrepresentations of their true meaning.

With the above in mind, I humbly submit a list of words that should be banned in the New Year:

“Utilize” instead of the simpler “use”.

You watched Idiocracy.

So, like, at the end of the day, after all has been said and done, the take away is that, all that really matters is family.

Step by step...

I’ve seen bits and pieces but not the whole thing. Does “utilize” come up at some point?

Starting a sentence with “So” and saying “like forever”. So I think it’s a millennial think kind of like all the beards these kids sport these days ;-)

Starting a sentence with “So”

Drives me nuts. First heard it a few years ago and it spread like wildfire. It's basically a stalling technique for snowflakes to gather their thoughts and wake up their brains from the distraction of their phone in their face.

“Reaching out” is a silly phrase period. Why aren’t “I called _____” or “I talked to _______” or “I emailed _______” good enough? They are clearer expressions of what a person did than “reaching out” is.

On the other end of it, there are people who ...
I know a lot of people with a bad, you know ...
They talk a lot but it’s just ...
Some of them are professionals who do this in a, whatever ...
And they don’t understand why no one ...
I think it’s frustrating for everyone, but ...

I just want to scream at these people: FINISH YOUR SENTENCES!!

You know, my take away at the end of the day is that the most prolific utilizer of the meaningless term “you know” suffered a humiliating defeat in a national election, you know?

This one is one of my pet peeves, too.

For years I didn’t (and really still don’t) like “pro-active”; pro-being what I feel is “ahead of time”, or “before”. So, before I’m active, I’m going to think about the problem and then work on it.

Pivot, make no mistake, “loose” for “lose,” “boarder” for “border,” “went missing,” calling a mentally confused person transgender. I’m sure I’ll think of more.

“At the End of the Day” I’m thinking it would be “Surreal” if we could stop “Kicking The Can Down The Road” and tell the liberals exactly what we think of their “Diversity” so they can crawl off to their “Safe Spaces” and let us get back to being America again.

I have plenty other pet peeves, but those are the ones that make me want to introduce people to my uncle Charles Mauser.
