BILL MURRAY: OPENING 'CADDYSHACK' THEMED BAR ... Which Is Nice
tmz ^ | 12/20 | tmz

It's not exactly a Cinderella story ... but it's pretty damn cool that Bill Murray is opening a Caddyshack-themed bar in the Windy City! Bill and his 5 brothers are reportedly moving forward with a golf-themed bar in the Crowne Plaza hotel in Rosemont ... according to the Daily Herald. The brothers already have a verbal agreement to take over the space and working on getting everything in writing ... so they can start serving up drinks to Carl Spackler enthusiasts, ASAP.

“The best thing to do is ignore the plot about Danny Noonan getting a scholarship and concentrate on Murray, Dangerfield, and to a lesser extent Chase and Ted Knight (Dangerfield’s foil )”

From what I’ve heard that’s ultimately what the makers of the movie did also. It was originally supposed to mainly be about the caddies and their various plot lines, with the Chase/Dangerfield/Murray parts being more like extended cameos. But the “cameos” (many ad libbed) were so much better/funnier than the caddy related crap that the makers of the movie rightly decided to flip the two in terms of screen time.

And a classic was born...and that’s all she wrote.

I didn’t realize the script was creamed and buffed with a fine chamois afterwards.

Still waiting for the “Meatballs” themed restaurant.

Will it open? It just doesn't matter.

It’s easy to grin when your ship comes in and you’ve got the restaurant business beat. But the man worthwhile, Is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat.

So by osmosis or whatever, they are getting exposed to Bill Murray.

Yeah, he was in "Osmosis Jones" too.

Bret Baier took heat from the “harridscente” for this question, but I though it was hilarious:

Rodney Dangerfield (born Jacob Cohen, November 22, 1921 – October 5, 2004) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, producer, screenwriter and comedian known for the catchphrase "I don't get no respect!" and his monologues on that theme. He is also remembered for his 1980s film roles, especially in Easy Money, Caddyshack, and Back to School.

The Murray brothers grew up on the North Shore of Chicago. Their parents, Ed and Lucille Murray raised nine children in a sweet little house on a leafy street in Wilmette, Illinois. As teenagers, “the boys spent their summers working as caddies at the local private country club; it was that experience that inspired Brian Doyle Murray to write the classic golf comedy, Caddyshack. Many of the brothers participated in the making of the movie and can be found standing around in some of the funniest scenes.

...

Most of the movie ended up being adlibbed. The original script focused on the kids, and Carl Spackler didn’t have any lines.

No offense, but how many people actually remember Caddy Shack?

And its it going to have an animatronic gopher as its host?

But if it’s just a Caddyshack bar, not many people can relate to a movie that is almost 40 years old.

...

Wait a few hours, then go back and read this thread.

I was watching Saint Vincent with some youngin's about 2 weeks ago, and one says, isn't he the guy in the golfing movie with the gofer?

I think J.K. Simmons' Farmer's commercial with the gopher and Ricky Fowler is a tip of the hat to Caddyshack. I should probably rent or buy it for my wife. She has never seen it, and she loves to watch PGA Golf. St. Vincent also looks like a movie she would like.

Honestly, I barely remember Bill Murray or Chevy Chase in that movie, let alone that kid who was ostensibly the lead. "Caddyshack" is all about Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight - those two made that movie into the classic that it is.

Well, OK - Murray did have some funny bits too.
