The Texans wasted $37 million on Brock Osweiler, and now they’re stuck with him
Fox Sports ^ | December 18, 2016 | Cameron DaSilva

The Houston Texans remained squarely in the hunt in the AFC South with a much-needed win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. They kept pace with the Tennessee Titans, who eked out a win over the Kansas City Chiefs on a game-winning field goal as time expired.

Both teams are now 8-6 with the Indianapolis Colts one game back, setting up for a potential winner-take-all meeting between the Texans and Titans in Week 17. Their win over the Jaguars was great, but they have serious issues to deal with – namely at the quarterback position where Brock Osweiler was benched in favor of Tom Savage.

Brock had good potential

Any QB that can't get the ball to DeAndre Hopkins doesn't belong in the league. Even mediocre Brian Hoyer was able to do that.

Tom Savage’s NFL potential is closer to Michael Savage than Russell Wilson’s.

Do you think the Texans can get Tony Romo?

Sounds like the perfect landing spot for Tony. But, they still have to pay Osweiler next year. That is the problem.

You gotta ask yourself if the big bucks for QB’s is smart economics, long-term. Russell Williams won it all on his rookie deal, so did Joe Flacco, and Ben Rothlisberger - so did (almost) Colin Kaepernick. Dak Prescott is a promising beast. There are a lot of sacrifices made by spending about 15% of payroll on 1.89% of the personnel.

Not always. Remember they signed a proven vet - Ed Reed in 2013. Just a little past his sell-by date.

Trevor Siemian looks pretty good to me. Too bad the O line can’t protect him, of block for a runner.

Siemian shows potential and is good value for the money, but going 3 & out five times in a row during one stretch yesterday against the Patriots is flat out anemic. Regarding Brock Osweiler, John Elway commented that 'the deal you don't make sometimes turns out to be the best deal for the team'. Brock's chances of being successful as a NFL QB would have been enhanced had he stayed with the Broncos simply because he was well acquainted with the Broncos system. However, if the Broncos had to pay him anything close to what he's making with the Texans Siemian is far better value.

Elway and the Broncos dodged a bullet.

Brock should be getting paid a rookie salary, if not less.
He is a bust.

probably started by SF's mgmt. to get some interest in their unpatriotic boat anchor.

That would be pretty ironic since Texan fans spend most of their time hating anything Cowboys...

I think us 49ers fans would be willing to swap Krapperdick for him -- even up.

Kap wouldn't be welcomed here in Texas.

Add Romo to that list. He was a nobody in the draft and look what he's accomplished. No, he doesn't have a Super Bowl yet, but his numbers put him as one of the top performing QBs.

You’re right. But for the muffed FG snap in 2006, Romo would also have made his best bones on his rookie contract, albeit they were bigger back then.

Reminds me of when the 49ers had Elvis Grbac waiting for Steve Young to retire. Ended up with 2 top-dollar contracts in K.C. and Baltimore. Dodged a bullet. Can’t blame Fitzpatrick for thinking he’s more than he’s worth. It’s called ‘get it while you can.’ Remember Scott Mitchell?

Before the season even started I said Brock leaving Denver for Houston was the most idiotic move I’ve ever seen a player make. Any QB dumb enough to leave the perfect situation he had in Denver for your team, is not the guy you want for your QB. Brock is selfish, egotistical and immature. Only someone with those qualities would have left Denver. Houston deserves all the negatives that come with bringing someone like that to your team.
