I'm almost retired!
Maybe he just wanted your address... sleep tight.
Obviously an effort to oppress the rights of minorities
My way of dealing with the grocery-card purchase tracking is simply never to have one in my own name. You can sign up under any alias you please; I’ve never been asked for ID when doing so.
Another way is to swap cards with somebody else every so often, but then there’s a card in your name somewhere out there.
And I don’t give out my telephone number, email address, or even ZIP code. If the clerk insists, I make something up. Yes, it’s lying, and what of it?
I noticed in Tennessee that everybody gets carded, no exceptions. Locally here in Tidewater it is sporatic. I think that cheeky baby at the convenience store just wants my name and address. I’ve invited her over for coffee several times.
When I was in college fifty (that’s right, 50) years ago have annual Moms’ Days. Smart bartenders all learned very quickly that the way to a mom’s heart was to card her.
That's generally the case. Don't get angry with the cashier, they're just doing what the boss tells them. My wife is a supermarket cashier and it's her store's policy to card everyone, no exceptions.
Speaking of age "discrimination", LOL: I'm 63, and when I go to Krispy Kreme, they don't even ask me - the lady just looks at me and says "I gave you the senior discount". :-)
Very strange.
Yes, it sounds as though you, too, have been caught by the spray pain police!
I are up in the canyons in L.A. ... Beverly Glen Canyon to be specific.
There was a little tiny oasis called “Odie’s Market” half way up to my home. I used to stop as I drove up and buy homemade pastries and cookies.
Wonderful ... until the health department clamped down!
Well, i agree, that once issued, they never check you ... never. But when getting a card [in California, al least] they ask for a license.
I always notice who is checking. A few days ago I got PO box since home delivery is so bad here ... and the post office asked for a credit card, a license and proof that I had car insurance or proof of my home insurance.
Heck!
Maybe it varies between states, or stores. Here in Arizona, I’ve never been asked. I would have been, in Tucson about 20 years back, if I had wanted to use the card to rent videos, so I got a card without that feature.
Shades of “The Graduate” :)
I wasn't the only one who commented how stupid the laws are here in Illinois.
I'm 54 and I'm sure I look it. I must've had that "Really?!" look on my face when the cashier asked to see my ID as she said "Sorry! We have to card everyone now."
went to an Oakland game with three beer drinkers. I went to the snack bar the last inning you could buy beer. No license or wallet, just cash. I don’t drink. Three Bud’s please.
ID Please.
I was 53.
No ID no beer. Everyone gets carded.
Supervisor please.
I took off my hat and showed my hair line.
Here’s my ID.
The supervisor gave me the beer. Probably 1-time event. I know it was for me. Don’t buy alcohol much. Maybe a bottle of wine for guests.
Hope this doesn’t happen here .. [bet it does!]
I hate political correctness!
Been retired two years and the wife for 3-1/2 - highly recommended state. Every day is a Saturday unless you have a date/appointment.
OTOH, when I voted in my town, I was fumbling in my wallet for a pic ID when I checked in. Registrar said *anything with your name on it is OK ...a credit card, debit card...*
My very irreverent son, who was standing behind me said, *Here’s a post-it note with your name on it, use this*
The registrar said, *OK*.
For something so sacred as voting, I was steaming. So, it seems, to buy liquor or cigs, more significant ID is required. GEEZ. World is up-side-down.
that’s what I noticed Trader Joe’s doing. copying other name brand products they carry then get rid of the name brand. I no longer shop there. they are more gimmick then anything else.
I suspect it's a branch-off from that stupid "Zero Tolerance" policy they implemented in the schools, which give administrators the luxury of not having to use their brains.
