Lol, I once gave my mother a peanut butter making machine and she used it for several years, making PB from parched peanuts.
vitacost.com has some of the best prices online and they ship from North Carolina and Nevada. And you can probably find almond butter at least at most health food stores and maybe some larger supermarkets.
DIY is as easy as it could be: for the most part, homemade nut butter is just a matter of putting the nuts in the food processor and buzzing away until it's the consistency you like. In come cases, if the nut is too dry for your food processor to grind easily, you add little dabs of vegetable oil while grinding. And salt if you like (I like).
