According to my family’s stories, I had a great uncle afflicted with this bar drunk disease. After several years of coming home drunk, being abusive, and passing out on the bed, it seems that auntie had had enough.
So she patiently wrapped him up in the sheets, and HAND SEW him in nice and tight. She woke him up from his drunken stupor by applying the broom handle with considerable force. Apparently the broom handle treatment was applied for quite some time as it did not stop until the neighbors came over to see what the problem was from the screaming.
They lived out in the country ... far out in the country. Took a while for the neighbors to get there.
Word is that uncle never got drunk or set foot in a bar again.
