External caddies/readers are the best.
I have a portable one bought 6 or 7 years ago that I use at work sometimes. Works great and I maybe paid $25 for it.

I once accidentally bought a 2.5” drive for my desktop mini-tower thinking it was a 3.5”. I decided to use it as an external USB storage drive instead, the case w/USB connector was about 9 bucks. Makes a great portable external drive.
Tho you can also pop a 2.5” drive in the Startech HD bay.
