You know that's a rhetorical question.
My response falls along the lines of, "there are a lot of black marks regarding our history, but there is no country in world history that has done more to right its wrongs than the United States."
If that's not good enough, I have plenty of arrows in my quiver to shoot back at them, depending on how riled up I get.
I agree. I actually think it a good thing to look at the warts and try to gain some sort of understanding. Some things we may never truly understand. The problem with the critics is they already decided they hate America. So now if you point out the good things they will find a reason to ignore those or minimize them.
Here in Canada I was surprised at the pile on Trudeau when he praised Fidel Castro. Even leftist rags were making fun of Trudeau. However on Facebook, one friend made the claim that because our view of Cuba is colored by the United States, and that you can’t trust the US, that negates all negative narratives about Cuba. So now even facts don’t matter.
