““The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭25:40‬ ‭NIV‬‬ You missed a great opportunity --------------------------- A few thoughts. 1)The "brothers and sisters" is speaking to the sheep, referring to fellow Christians? Not clear here but when tested in the larger sense many of Jesus commands are for fellow Christians. Not fair you say? See point 4. 2) Some commentaries refer to this as nations and the reference is to Israel. 3) I am convinced We get in Gods way many times (not always) by helping people, They never get to the point of relying on God. Solving problems of others should not be an automatic response. 4)My point is discernment.

Jesus commands us to love God, love ourselves, and love our neighbors. Further, He commands us to make disciples of all men.

These commands have no conditions

When I have been in the exact same situation I have sat and had a meal with them. Maybe it made a difference in their life. But it certainly mad a difference in mine

Once, I sat and had pizza with a woman who asked me for money. A few weeks later I saw her picture in the paper. She had froze to death

I am glad you mentioned that. When I think of all the socialist programs firmly in place in our nation, there’s no wonder why so many families fall apart and why churches are no longer the central pillars of our communities. Government has stepped in to take the place of support from one’s family and Christian community. If a person really was a deadbeat, their family would know it and would refuse the handouts, giving the deadbeat the choice of either working or going hungry. Likewise, if a person was genuinely in need of assistance, family and church would most likely be aware of such and would fill the need, being blessed in the process. Now, our government hasn’t a clue about who is needy and who is gaming the system.
