Special Olympics are for kids with Down Syndrome or similar conditions.
Not autism where there are no physical issues.

Special Olympics eligibility requirements specify the participant must be intellectually disabled and at least 8 years old.

I agree that the kid just swam in his age group. That doesn’t mean he (his Mum) wasn’t sandbagging.
He should compete with kids more his size.
