The Special Olympics are not JUST for kids with Down Syndrome. They are for anyone age 8 and older with intellectual disabilities, which could potentially include autism.

Autism is an emotional disability.
Austistic kids can be geniuses.
In this case the kid was competing with kids not at his athletic level.
It’s simple.
I have nothing against him competing against other autistic kids.

The question is, who is eligible TODAY according to their own rules. Special Olympics is not limited to kids with Down Syndrome. They are a subset of who is eligible to participate.
Well, they let him compete and sometimes kids do smash previous best records.
It happens.
If they let him compete, then he deserves the medal whether they like his time or not.
Not all autistic kids are physically adept.
Just because he’s autistic doesn’t mean he’s OK physically.
I agree that the kid just swam in his age group. That doesn’t mean he (his Mum) wasn’t sandbagging.
He should compete with kids more his size.

Yes, according to the article, they group the kids into ability groups.
Based on the rules, the kid can’t swim more than 15% in the finals than he swam in the heats. This kid swam 15.8% faster than his qualifying heat.
Wouldn’t that be like disqualifying Forrest Gump for running too fast?

But millions still believe that a ‘gay’ gene is real and they site that as a reason to excuse bad behavior form any gay person.
