I would really like to understand the law in this matter, all I have read is conflicting speculation.

The SoS have certified the results. Does a recount “erase” that certification? Otherwise, if a recount is not finished in time, wouldn’t the original certified results be submitted?

Really wish we had some definitive statements from each of the 3 states about what happens, what the law is for each state.

Agree. This is a national issue, but at the very least, those states owe their voters an explanation of the process and the possible outcomes. This needs to be clear to those voters whose votes could be disenfranchised by the recounts (if the recounts are not completed in time).

It would seem to me that any voter in one of those states would have standing to bring a law suit against Stein.

Isn’t this a lot like all these commentators on a football broadcast trying to explain the rules as to what is a catch and what isn’t. Eventually one has to tune out and go get another beer.

As I read it, the recount has to be completed by Dec 18. The burden is on the recounters to finish in time. If not, the original results go to the State Canvassing Board for certification.

2016 Presidential Election Results

The results below have been canvassed and certified by county canvassing boards, but are unofficial until certified by the Michigan Board of State Canvassers on Nov. 28. These are the numbers that will be presented to the state board for the Nov. 8 presidential election. Trump leads Clinton by 10,704 votes.

I believe the law differs in each state. In Florida, the law stated elections must be certified within xx days of the election. They were not finished and kept ‘trolling’ for more votes for Gore.

The SOS was under enormous pressure not to certify by the entire nation of libs, including death threats. Kathryn Harris (Bush (R)) certified the results.

All hell broke lose. Gore sued. It went to the FL Supremes (all D, but 1 Indie)
They over ruled FL law and directed the trolling for votes to continue. Back and forth and eventually the USSC decided.

So yes, there are state election laws for republicans and judges for dems to negate the election laws.
