'Who the **** has tomatoes and beans for breakfast?’ US foodies are NOT impressed with English dine
Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | November 23, 2016 | Imogen Blake

There are some things the British do very well, and breakfast is one of them.

But one English diner has proved that the UK is not always able to recreate morning meals from other countries to quite the same standard.

A photo of a so-called 'American' breakfast at a roadside restaurant somewhere in England has gone viral for not remotely resembling what Americans eat in the morning.

The picture, posted on Reddit by JeffSergeant, outraged Americans for pairing items in a traditional English fry-up with pancakes and waffles.

I have English relatives, God luv 'em, but I've always said there's American cuisine, Italian cuisine, French cuisine....and English cooking.

Sadly, no bacon and I love bacon, especially hickory or apple smoked bacon fried crisp but not burnt.

Yes, American gravy can be quite good but it should never be mated to Mexican food.

I reckon haggis is the reason the Scots invented scotch...so they wouldn’t be bothered by what they were eating.

“American Style Pizza” has corn and peas on it.

That is one of my culture clash memories from some time working in Hong Kong circa 1990 when that was on the Pizza Hut menu.

Yeah, it’s definitely a Anglo-American mix. They don’t do crispy bacon over there.

I love a British breakfast, minus the black pudding.

A good breakfast will carry you through until dinner.

English bacon isn’t the same thing as American bacon. It’s made from pork loin, not pork belly. So even if an English breakfast includes “bacon”, it doesn’t actually have BACON.

“Brit food is rubbish, for the most part”

Ain’t it the truth! We traveled from London to Scotland, Wales and then back to London over three weeks for our honeymoon.

I was nearly in tears by the second night due to the horror of trying to find a place to eat and decent food! It’s to much to go into - but the food culture is so different there. One thing to keep in mind- very few parking lots, and that impacts the restaurant scene. Also, I don’t know as I saw even a single drive through restaurant.

Eat your breakfast as it is likely the only edible meal you will have for that day. And don’t be surprised if your “baked beans” are actually pork-n-beans. I can handle American baked beans at breakfast, but pork-n-beans are a stretch too far.

Afternoon cream tea will save your life on occasion.

I was ready to eat the gravel off of the runway by the time we got back to the US. And LIKE IT.

I can think of two things that I make that I sometimes have for breakfast with tomatoes on it.
Friselle with tomatoes, olive oil and salt.
Toasted bread with laughing cow cheese or cream cheese with tomatoes, olive oil and salt.
I would eat them any time of the day.

“Eggs and sausage, and Brussels sprouts with horseradish on the side. Beat that.”

Oats cooked in chicken broth with “Normandy blend” veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, thin sliced yellow squash and baby carrots) and a skinless chicken breast chopped into small chunks, seared in a pan until caramelized. All mixed together in an oats with chicken and veggie stew.

What makes it breakfast is the fried egg on top.

A lot of English foods sound awful to me, but I LOVE my toast to be dry and crunchy, with cold butter on it. I can’t stand soggy toast. I know I’m weird; I’ve learned to live with it.

I think that’s the same episode that had the skit about the gas cooker delivered to the wrong house. Hilarious! But I’ve never seen it again.
