President Barack Obama said at town hall meeting at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in Lima, Peru, on Sunday that one of the reasons the United States has an advantage over China in the Olympics is because the U.S. has “a bigger genetic pool than anybody.”
“You notice that the United States did really well in the Olympics,” Obama said, according to the transcript of the town hall posted by the White House. […]

FWIW China is an enormous country with an array of genetic differences from region to region. The Chinese in the north are known for being quite tall and the far south for being rather short. Then you can start heading west through several regional/cultural subsets of the whole.
And of course, there are those Turkic Uyghurs over in Sinkiang.

Exactly! Mongolian and Russian blood from the north. Tibetan and Indian blood from the Tibetan Plateau. The blood of numerous SE Asian groups from the SE. Japanese and Korean blood from the east. All moving very slowly into China over thousands of years into rather closed communities for most of that time. It all adds up to many regional differences in genetic makeup.
