‘SNL’ Ratings Hit Season Low With Return of Alec Baldwin as Trump
Breitbart ^ | 11/22/2016 | Jerome Hudson

The latest episode of Saturday Night Live saw its ratings drop to a season low with the return of host Kristen Wiig and actor Alec Baldwin as Donald Trump. Saturday’s installment of SNL drew 4.7 million overall household viewers and 2.2 million among the oft-coveted 18-49 demographic. Those numbers are down substantially from last week’s overall and 18-49 viewership of 6.2 million and 3.9 million, respectfully.

The show featured Baldwin as President-elect Trump, so ignorant of foreign policy that he had to Google the meaning of ISIS. The “Weekend Update” segment of the show was used to mock Breitbart News and its former chairman, Steve Bannon.

Last week’s show saw iconic comedian Dave Chappelle host SNL for the first time. It was also the first show to air since President-elect Donald Trump historic election.

In October, during the premiere of SNL’s 42nd season, Baldwin debuted his Trump impression alongside actress Kate McKinnon, who impersonated Hillary Clinton. As the presidential campaign heated up, so too did SNL’s ratings.

It has its moments. The team of Chris Farley and David Spade was epic. I still laugh at the Matt Foley sketch (where he does the anti-pot lecture).

I actually thought Baldwin did a pretty good Trump. They need to ease up a bit on the harshness though. It is too far beyond reason to be funny.

I thought this Alex Baldwin was going to leave the country if Trump won and that he was not interested in playing Trump on SNL after the election. In my opinion, he does not do a very good Trump impression. They should find another actor to play Trump for the next 8 years.

That all said, it's often bandied about here that SNL has not been funny since the days of Belushi and variations of that.

Not true.

SNL has been consistently funny for over 40 years, except maybe that early 1980s period when Lorne Michaels was not running the show.

Some people get twisted in a knot over the SNL brand of humor. I'm not one of those. Of course they are going to make fun of Donald Trump. That's what they do. They also did a number on Hillary during the campaign, portraying her as a grasping power-hungry woman desperately trying to win the White House at all costs.

Now they are a bunch of liberals so they probably do pull some punches when it comes to satirizing the Left. I've always wondered why there couldn't be a similar "SNL" type show that comes from the Right. There's a market for that as evidenced by the success of shows like "South Park." I wonder why such a show has never been done. I'd certainly go out of my way to watch it.

I don’t find SNL amusing, either. I had company sat. evening and my company was watching SNL. I put in my ear plugs and watched a movie on the pc. Baldwin’s attitude toward Trump pre-election was reason enough to ignore him on SNL.

There has been this myth that every presidential candidate gets equally roasted and that it’s best to be a good sport, show the public you have a thick skin and a sense of humor.

That was always horse shit - the way they made fun of democrats was always different - like Clinton being portrayed not as an evil predator but as a harmless playboy blessed with unlimited sexual vigor, while Bush portrayed as Hitler’s idiot brother.

But if there was even the slightest bit of truth to the myth - it was exploded when the Obamas came to the White House - a total hands off policy was adopted so immediately and unanimously that you’d think every comic, satirist or cartoonist in the land must have actually received a memo to that effect.

EVERYTHING NBC is becoming irrelevant to the heartland of the country, minus a few good football matchups they happened to capture on Sunday night.

Turn off everything else NBC...for good...

But the gal who "impersonated" Hillary was just a nice looking young lady with a wig. They should have put her in a thunder thighs/cankles suit, but they obviously had "too much respect" for her.

For all of his many faults Baldwin is a brilliant actor. His SNL Trump was over the top but only HE could make it over the top. If they just toned it down a bit it could a have been funny.

Everybody believes they can imitate Trump, because Trump created a winning brand. Just say the word Yuge!

Trump created unique Trump. Nobody else comes close.

I would love to dye my hair Trump orange.

Baldwin is failing because, while it’s easy for an actor to play the fool, it’s very difficult for a fool to play someone smarter than himself.
