Ten takeaways from one of those classically sneaky weekends in college football, where the chalk gets erased and the national hierarchy is shattered, one shocking result after another: 1. This was Survive And Advance Saturday, with upsets all over the place for the College Football Playoff contenders. Among the major casualties: undefeated No. 2 Clemson, which had spent much of this season playing with fire, finally self-immolated in a stunning upset loss at home to Pittsburgh, 43-42; No. 3 Michigan, which took a 10-0 lead at Iowa, fell behind 11-10, regained it 13-11 and then lost on a walk-off field goal; undefeated No. 4 Washington, which had played a soft Ten takeaways from one of those classically sneaky weekends in college football, where the chalk gets erased and the national hierarchy is shattered, one shocking result after another:

And in the meantime Alabama stomped Mississippi State into a mud puddle. I think the fight is going to be for the subsequent spots after Alabama.

Real College playoffs, anyone?
12 conferences; champions all get in; top 4 teams get a bye in round 1.

round 1: 8 teams; 4 games
round 2: 4 winners + bye teams; 4 games
semi-final: 4 teams ; 3 games
college championship: 2 teams.

make sense?

USC actually won 26-13 not 24 -13. There was a safety at the very end.
