Robert Vaughn of 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' fame dies at 83

Actor Robert Vaughn, best known for playing Napoleon Solo on the NBC spy drama “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.,” died surrounded by his family after battling acute leukemia, his manager Mathew Sullivan tells FOX411.
He was 83.
“Mr. Vaughn passed away at 7:30 this morning,“ Sullivan said, calling Vaughn “a great human being and a great actor.”
“The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” aired from 1964-68 and made Vaughn one of TV’s biggest stars. …

I didn’t see him in that. He was the star of that series. Do you mean you didn't see that series? My recollection was that it was in the late 70s.

The opening creeped me out as a young 70s kid. They did some pretty neat tricks with that show, didn't they?
I had forgotten how it's intro went, but fortunately youtube has it.

The guy he was after lies dead on the airport floor.
He gets in the back of his chauffeur driven Lincoln and whips out the WSJ.

“United Network” rather than “United Nations”, albeit the latter was implied. It was all smoke and mirrors with the UN-. The Intelligence Taskforce had the guns and soldiers, and the Command for Law Enforcement were just the spies.

I remember seeing Vaughn in a Grand Union in Ridgefield, CT in 1985.
What struck me is how short he looked. He was wearing blue jeans and leather jacket and a Stetson type hat.
He lived in Ridgefield at the time.
