They start out by saying that Hillary won the popular vote, which is odd because the only factor necessary to win the election is to accumulate a majority of Electoral Votes.

Look, in the World Series just won by the Cubs, Cleveland and Chicago ended up scoring the same number of runs for the series - 27. But let us suppose Cleveland had scored 30 runs for the seven games. Would the Indians try to claim the Chicago's victory in the World Series was somehow less legitimate because Cleveland scored more runs? No way. Because the rules say, to win the World Series, you need to win four game. Nothing else matters.

The majority of the voters cast a vote against Hillary with around 52% voting in favor of someone else.

In 1992 it was even worse. Bill had 57% of the electorate vote against him and he owes his success to the Electoral College just like Trump. If they had assigned electoral votes proportionately, Bill would have received 231, well short of the 270 needed to win.
