Fairfax County VA is hard-core liberal.
At our voting location we have always been outnumbered by democrats (easy to tell by the sample ballots they get when going in).
Our family has a tradition of voting together. So this morning, we got up, had breakfast (me, the better half, and three college kids), then jumped in the cars to go vote.
There was a line of folks waiting for the republican sample ballot and I did not see one person going over to the democrat table. I couldn't believe my eyes.
I'm not saying this means anything, but that it is a stark contrast to previous elections.
I've vowed not to watch the news today (going hunting instead), but am going to wake up tomorrow for the result.
Stafford County here, have lived here since Dec 1992 and became a resident and started voting in 1996 after retirement.
I have never had so many black folk, out of the blue, trash Hitlery and tell me they loved Trump. I have retired a second time now but my wife works for the DoD and she comes home amazed at how many blacks and females in general are talking about voting Trump. Since it is a DoD agency it may be an outlier but I really hope it is a trend.
We will be voting soon in Eagle Rock. Not sure if there will be a line or not. We are in a heavily Hillary area..sigh.
My stomach is in knots today....
I print out the sample ballot a couple of weeks before I vote, so I have the time to decide on each candidate, amendments and bond issues, etc.
So have I. But, it's been an original article that I wrote on a specific subject -- like an analysis I did of Social Security benefits.
But then arent the majority of comments here vanities?
Of course comments are "vanities". That's the point: an article is posted, and people comment on the article -- deconstructing it and pointing out the errors, or adding more information that amplifies it. That's the foundation of Free Republic, and it's what Jim's "vanity on vanities" is reminding people to do.
Post away in comments, that's what they are for. However, I wish a few people would stop roboposting the same long screed over and over to remind us the Clinton's are corrupt (yeah, that's breaking news...).
So I dont mind a few as long as they dont take over.
Unfortunately, they have taken over. That's why Jim posted that reminder about 10 days ago.
Come to think of it a fair percentage of news stories are vanities of the journalists and editors.
There's a section for that: Editorials. Of course, a lot of lamestream "news" articles are editorials in disguise, but that's what FR is about: pointing out that bias.
If your BP is good thats great, mines elevated due heredity.
Believe it or not, mine is lowering as I get older. My doctor 'prescribed' salt, as it's not serious enough for medication.
When Jim says to end all vanities, I will agree with ending all vanities.
As of now, it’s only curbing them. So please consider the points in my post # 41.
I was told that the Dem Congressman, Jerry Connolley, was running UNAPPOSED!. The Republicans could not find any one to run against him in Fairfax County.
We canned the Chairman of the 11th District after he didn’t get us a nominee to run this time. He had two years to find someone. I met a nice man at the WMAL Pancakes and Politics @ Silver Diner who had mounted a write-in campaign but it was way too late. The new Chairman has promised that we’ll have a candidate next time. Hard for a Republican to win in Tom Davis’ old seat yet someone should absolutely be using the platform to further ideas.
so what is your position on people getting off the subject on a thread?
a nice one time reminder is ok but methinks you are beating a dead horse
we are all a little tense today and the strike zone is a little looser today so go with it.
I don't think Jim Robinson would appreciate his request being called "a dead horse".
Anectdotes dont mean beans, but I vote in Alexandria. Usually lines out the wazoo. No line, walked right in like an off year election.
Yeah... I was shocked at how few people showed up in Fairfax County, too. Hardly a line at 7:30. Poll worker said that the peak had been a little earlier; You can easily get to work in DC at 9 from where this was.
My buddy who works FOR the county there (Fairfax) just texted me “wait til the rest of us get off work, they are going to lose BAD!”
Go fellow Virginians!!! Drive the ‘Rats into the sea!!!
I’ll be out here in CA where we hope to shock them!
At 11 a.m., Election Day turnout in county is 30-35 percent on average. Some polls reports 40+ percent turnout.
Virginia hunting is good. Got to get out of fairfax to hunt though.
All anecdotal but the guys who work for me are all voting for Trump. We always have a good natured back and forth around election time. They’ve worked for me for over twenty years and this is the first time that we are all on the same side. Working class black Christians who are solid men but who have always been democrat.
The lines are in rural VA. At my heavily Trump precinct there were people lined up at 5:45 and there was a 10 minute line at 9AM when I went (normally no line). I was #292 on the second counter. The first counter had more (closer to the booths) and the total definitely exceeds the entire 2012 turnout. Rural VA is Trump country and people are turning out, many women and millenial women as well all the old white guys.
Don't worry about the vanity, we needed a Virginia thread.
Hokie Mom, Thank you for the background info on why no Republican candidate.
