(Australia)

FIRE crews are battling an intense blaze at a bacon factory at Kingaroy, northwest of Brisbane.

Emergency services were called to the fire at SunPork Fresh Foods’ Swickers bacon factory on Kingaroy-Barkers Creek Rd about 8am, where they found the factory engulfed in flames.

It is understood nearby homes and businesses were evacuated amid fears that the smoke could be carrying a toxic chemical.

Police have cordoned off the road and have urged motorists to avoid the area.

Paramedics remain on standby. It’s believed no one has been injured.

Local LNP Member for Nanango and Deputy Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington tweeted an image of the fire.

Federal Member for Maranoa David Littleproud has offered assistance to SunPork and its employees.

“This iconic business has played an integral part for employment in the South Burnett and Queensland’s pork processing for more than 50 years,” he said in a statement.

We just placed my Mom in assisted living (turns 96 this month). Ten minutes away instead of 500 miles. Care is excellent & I visit every morning.

“Mom will have her usual: coffee, juice, yogurt, fruit cup, wheat toast, and bacon, please”.

“Son, please eat the bacon. I don’t know why they keep bringing it.”

;^)

who can wait 20 minutes for the oven to heat up then 40 minutes to cook bacon? Unless you cook in bulk.

I live close to a cookie factory! When the wind blows the right way I automatically gain five pounds from the aroma.

I’ve done that before, it comes out pretty good!

I do like having the fat in the frying pan, then throwing a couple of eggs in, sprinkling with black pepper and crushed red pepper, then cook until the eggs get dark brown and crispy on the edges!

Man, I love bacon!

Granted, it takes a bit longer. But the bacon cooks more uniformly and the clean up is easier. Give it a try.

"LES NESSMAN: "Oh, the humanity!"

To this day, whenever I hear the "Hindenberg" broadcast, In my head I hear Les Nessman rather than the actual guy that called it.

Kilgore: Smell that? You smell that?

Lance: What?

Kilgore: Bacon, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.

[kneels]

Kilgore: I love the smell of bacon in the morning. You know, one time we cooked bacon, for 12 hours. The smell, you know that bacon smell, the whole hill. Smelled like

[sniffing, pondering]

Kilgore: breakfast.

Well done! ;) And, bacon! When I was Chief Engineer @ the Holiday Inn, we had a buffet all day, on the AM, breakfast line there was always a sheet pan of—you know it! I miss that place!

I hear ya! We used to vacation in Bradenton,Florida which is on the west coast of the state. In the city was a huge Tropicana plant complete with deliveries of truckloads of oranges (an impressive sight,IMO).When the plant was doing a run you could smell citrus as you drove by (the connector street from I-75 to the beach passed nearby).

It was very nice.

There was a mega bread bakery in my town growing up. The smell could drive you to insane hunger pains.

To counter my previous post I did spend 1/2 a summer in a town with a purina dog chow plant.

The smell had the opposite effect of hunger.
