On April 11, 1986 eight FBI agents engaged in a lead slinging war with two criminals, and despite outnumbering the crooks by four-to-one, ended up losing two of their own in a debacle that changed both tactics and the choices of firearms for law enforcement as a whole.
Michael Platt and William Matix were no good, despite not having a criminal record before they began their crime spree that ended their careers and lives. The two met while serving in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Matix having been a former Marine before enlisting in the Army. Platt was a Ranger. Strangely enough, the wives of both men died under strange circumstances, but neither was ever charged with any crime. The two men began their crime wave by murdering twenty five year old Emelio Briel while he was target shooting on October 5, 1985, and stealing his car.

That's pretty funny.
That is true. I use thr Glock 21, .45 cal for work onky becaise I shot it better than the 9mm and the .40 (which I carried previously.)
The ballistics on the 9mm duty ammo is superior to the .45 and its easier to carrier more ammo/mags.
But I just went with what I shot best, cold, outta the box.
Figured that was best estimate of being under stress.
The book, “Unintended Consequences” by John Ross gives a pretty detailed reenactment of this shootout.
Agreed
Thanks for the thread, it’s a nice change as we wait for the formality of a Trump win to occur.
Oh, and the YouTube links are great, I’ve got them marked and I’m looking forward to watching them later.

“A 9mm can at times send one to the morgue, or send one to the hospital...
But a 45 will take away one’s soul. and THEN send what is left of that one to the morgue.”
:-)
or so it is said.
(10 rounds 10 meters 10 seconds 10 centimetres)
Damn FINE shooting !!
“Never mind the fact that no law enforcement agency or military branch uses a revolver anymore.”
Well, maybe there is a difference between being a CCW guy and a cop. And no revolver or Glock can stop a bad guy cold. You can shoot a bad guy in the heart with a 44 magnum, and he’ll have enough residual blood pressure in the brain to keep shooting YOU for 10-30 seconds. 10 seconds can be a loonnngggg time.
Gus are not defensive weapons. They do not shield you. IIRC, the bad guy in this shootout was fatally wounded by one of the first shots fired...
FWIW, I point shoot a lot better with a revolver, particularly the 686 & J-frame I’m so familiar with. I’m also a lot more accurate out to 25 yards with a revolver than with a S&W Shield. I carry based on what works for me, not what works for a police department or SWAT team.
Not that SWAT teams are very professional:

IIRC, they put round into 5 houses that day.
This was most likely the begining considering these guys were Vietnam vets.

My next door neighbor growing up was a fbi agent he was there he was happy to make it home
Some observations. 1. Glad I carry a GLOCK 26 or 19 with 2 spare mags. 2. Glad 9mm is inexpensive enough i can shoot a lot to get more proficient. 3. I need to up my dry fire practice A LOT. 4. it may not be possible to tell good guys from bad guys if you are late to the scene. 5. I do practice without my glasses and shoot well AT THE RANGE also sometimes shoot with sunglasses as I wear them a lot.
Was the mini 14 converted to full auto or did he just shoot fast? At least wasn’t an evil black AR (thus exposing the deliberate ignorance of gun grabbers)

Some knockdown weight.
Before I lost it in the boating accident I used to pocket carry a Taurus Ultralite .38 snubby. It’s the perfect concealed carry for 110 degree Arizona clothing. It’s my “you’re not going to herd me into the back room” gun.
Ditto here on choosing the UL .38 snub for Oklahoma weather.

Maybe in the US. However, we were in Nice in May, and the police are still using revolvers. I always thought their cavalry style lanyards so amusing.
This was a month of so before the truck killings on the Promenade de Anglais. I wonder if they won’t improve their police’s weaponry in the wake of that and other recent events involving Islamics in France.
The Police Nationale carry modern pistols, and are often carrying MP5s. This was the same trip where I saw a French Army fireteam in full battle rattle, including body armor and FAMAS bullpup rifles, wandering around near the Place Masséna. They were wearing berets, but their helmets were clipped to their gear.
Good men would be utterly ashamed of what the FBI has become.
