That is a possibility but I suspect it is the small Douglas Squirrel common in the Pacific North West. I guess I could set a live trap and bait it with some pumpkin slices…

Yup. Around these parts we refer to squirrels as tree rats. Nothing but a decorated rat running in trees. Just as destructive if not more so.
