Fun fact hardcore Petty fans will know. Petty was locked in a legal battle with his record label during the recording of the album (hence the title). Each night, the tapes were loaded into a roadie’s car and driven off to an unknown destination so when asked in depostiions, Petty could truthfully answer that he did not know where they were.
Did he ever date Stevie Nicks? I’ve heard stories here & there about them having a fling while he was married to his wife Jane. Tom has said that Stevie Nicks is the greatest songwriter that he’s ever met.

I saw Tom in concert in Houston and Stevie came out for that ONE SONG, and then retired for the evening.
I used to love TP. several months back, though, he and Lynyrd Skynyrd came out with statements that the confederate flag was offensive and a symbol of hate.
Thus, he is dead to me now, and if Pandora plays his song I immediately give it a thumbs down so he will not get royalties.
And yeah, Skynyrd is dead to me, too.

I’ve never heard anything about them dating, and I’ve read everything on the guy. I know she dated Don Henley around the time she dueted with him (”Leather and Lace”) on her first solo album.
Nicks always said she wanted to join the Heartbreakers, but Tom said “But Stevie, there aren’t any girls in the Heartbreakers”.
When Stevie met Tom and his wife, she asked Jane how they met, and Jane replied “We met at the age of seventeen”, but with her Southern accent, “age” sounded like “edge”, and that’s where the title of Nicks’ “Edge Of Seventeen” came from.
I think Stevie has dated everyone at one time or another.
