I would think that Rick would have had enough sense to keep his mouth shut, after he just sat there and let Negan beat someone to death - what if Negan had decided to cut out Carl’s eye? The stupidity seemed incongruous to me there too.
I do want to see some conniving, acting like a pacifist from a lot of the gang, because anything else is stupidity. I don’t care much for a brooding pity party either. They are all still alive, and most of rest of the world is not. Survival depends on keeping on keeping on.
I watch the show late, and had initially thought it was over the top. However, after watching the premier, I turned on the ID channel (true crime). I realized that we have many Negans walking among us. The viciousness of some of the murders committed today outdo what we saw on the 1st episode.

There’s plenty of variations. As long as Carol is alive and Andrea is dead they’re varying from the comics pretty hard.
Yeah cliffing Glenn alive just to kill him half a dozen eps later was kind of lame.
Since I actually know people in the FX business none of it really bothers me. I know it’s fake and usually I’m paying more attention to the technique.
My husband had an early theory of why TWD is so popular with the American public. His theory is that it is not about zombies; but, is about what happens when civil society breaks down. As you say, a lot of “Neegans” out there. Sort of like how all of those aliens landing on Earth movies of the 1950’s was about the communist threat.
Lot’s for you to watch then. Me-I’m just watching the story line and wondering what they are thinking sometimes. Still more good than bad though.
